Losing your hair, no matter the reason, isn’t something anyone wants to go through, and it can be rather embarrassing. However, all hope is not lost. If you’re looking for a way to get your hair back, then hair restoration treatment might just be the thing for you.

PRP, otherwise known as platelet-rich plasma, has quickly emerged as a new mode of regenerative plastic surgery. The primary treatment for PRP therapy is hair loss. By using your body’s own platelet-rich plasma and infusing it into the affected area, you’ll achieve astonishing results and restore your hair.

How Does Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Aid in Hair Restoration?

PRP therapy is a three-step process. The first step involves drawing blood, typically from the patient’s arm. This is no different than giving blood or having your blood drawn at the doctor’s office.

Next, the blood sample is put into a centrifuge, which is a machine that spins the blood in order to separate into three parts of different densities – red blood cells, platelet-poor plasma, and platelet-rich plasma. This step typically takes about ten minutes.

Finally, we take the platelet-rich plasma that has been separated and draw it up into a syringe. Then, we re-inject it into areas of the scalp that need increased hair growth at the level of follicles that we are treating.

Because we are using the body’s own PRP, there are very little risks associated with this treatment. However, with that being said, patients should still pay attention to any injection sites for possible infection or injury to the blood vessels or nerves. Before undergoing treatment, talk to your doctor about preexisting conditions or medications that might cause unwanted side effects.

How Soon Will I See Results?

The first thing you should see is decreased hair loss, followed by early regrowth, and then increased length of hair. Results will vary, and they depend heavily on the consistency of treatment. It’s recommended to undergo an initial series of three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. If you’re satisfied with the results, the effects can then be maintained with additional PRP injections every three to six months.
